Duncanhayward Limited: Cycling Heritage Reimagined

We're transforming the historic Waterford to New Ross railway viaduct into a premier greenway destination for seniors and cycling enthusiasts. Since 2021, we've been connecting communities through safe, accessible trails and sustainable outdoor recreation.

From Rails to Trails

How duncanhayward Limited discovered opportunity in heritage infrastructure and built a thriving greenway ecosystem

The old railway viaduct connecting Waterford and New Ross sat dormant for years. But we saw something different—a chance to restore a piece of Irish infrastructure while creating safe spaces for seniors to stay active. That's what duncanhayward Limited was built on.

We're not just maintaining a path. We're building a movement around accessible cycling for people over 55. The terrain is forgiving, the scenery is stunning, and the community aspect is genuine. Most riders tell us they've made genuine friendships through these trails—something we didn't anticipate when we started.

Today, duncanhayward Limited manages over 12 miles of maintained trail surface. We've invested in proper drainage, safety signage, and rest stations. But the real win? Seeing people who said they'd never cycle again actually getting out there, pedaling, and discovering they're stronger than they thought.

How We Work

Building Better Trails, Better Communities

Duncanhayward Limited operates on four core pillars that guide everything we do—from trail maintenance to community engagement

Safety First

Every surface, signpost, and sightline is designed with older cyclists in mind. We don't cut corners on maintenance or infrastructure.

Community Built

We listen to our riders. Regular feedback sessions shape trail improvements, events, and programming throughout the year.

Sustainable

We're committed to preserving the natural landscape while making it accessible. Low-impact maintenance and habitat protection matter to us.

Education & Support

From beginner clinics to bike maintenance workshops, we're helping people build confidence and skills year-round.

Health Focus

Cycling isn't just exercise—it's mobility, independence, and vitality. That's what drives our commitment to accessibility.

Regional Connection

We're building links to Waterford and New Ross, creating economic opportunity for local businesses while promoting the Southeast.

What Matters

The Principles Behind duncanhayward Limited

We're guided by what we believe—and it shows in how we operate

Accessibility Isn't Optional

Every design decision—from slope angles to rest stop placement—considers people with varying mobility levels. We're not building for athletes. We're building for everyone.

Heritage Preservation Matters

The railway viaduct tells Ireland's industrial story. We're preserving that history while adapting it for modern use—not erasing it.

Community Drives Decisions

We don't plan in boardrooms. We listen to riders, gather feedback, and adapt. The people using the trail know what works better than anyone.

Quality Over Expansion

We'd rather maintain 12 miles of exceptional trail than stretch ourselves thin. Excellence in one place beats mediocrity everywhere.
